Please Help Those Ravaged By Katrina

The horrors of Katrina are breaking many hearts and minds. The suffering of those who are living in New Orleans and the Gulf regions is unimaginable for most of us. And there is so much to do and so much uncertainty...

Yesterday, I spoke with a coworker, a fellow counselor, whose family members (an aunt and 2 cousins) are still missing. My own brother lives a few miles from Mobile Alabama. He was one of the fortunate. His house was spared. He told me that he could not talk long last night..he and others were going out to purchase supplies to take to the displaced people in the area today. Mobile is about 2 hours away from New Orleans.

I, myself, listen to the current news and wonder what little I can contribute to ease the suffering of the people in that area.

Many news reports are requesting that donations be made in cash (check or credit card) rather than through the giving of tangible goods since there is no infrastructure in place at this time.

As Christians, please consider sacrificial giving for what is going to be the greatest relief effort in US history. What we do now, and how we respond to the suffering of our fellow Americans will significantly impact the spiritual climate of this nation.

And also, it is important to maintain vigilance in prayer for this region. We must identify with our suffering brethren in the region and examine our own hearts as we pray for our nation. Standing in the gap for the Gulf region may mean seeking God as the prophet Daniel did for his nation, so that a Spirit of Repentence would be granted and released to all.
